Eighteen years before the River Cats arrived, the only time you could see minor league quality play was in the Night League. Ironically, when I turned 40 in 1996, I started playing adult hardball again, and one of the main places we would play was at Renfree Field. I captured the feeling of playing there pretty well way back in 1982, and Scott Sommerdorf’s stunning photos really made this story, which is one of my favorite features I did for the Union.
