1989 World Series Game 3 color/Sacramento Union/Oct. 27, 1989

I was the Union’s daytime cops reporter and wasn’t a sportswriter by the time of the Oct. 17, 1989 earthquake that postponed Game 3 of the World Series at Candlestick Park featuring the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s, but I was assigned to do a color story on the made up Game 3 10 days later. I remember it being a tough assignment because I had to submit a story before the game was over and wasn’t in the actual press box but in a temporary setup in the stands above first base. Plus I was using for the first time one of the original word processors favored by reporters on deadline at the time, the Texas Instruments word processor, where you could only edit one line at a time. But I got it done!
